2008 Ford Falcon News
With the VE Commodore now leading the sales once again, Ford has been working hard on the new Ford Falcon - the iconic battle between Ford & Holden is one which never seems to end.
Whilst Toyota has seen the light and has moved onto a whole heap of small and medium sized cars (and admittedly, spent a considerable sum of money on the Toyota Aurion) Ford & Holden continue to bet their local manufacturing future on the big family cars.
The brand new falcon is due sometime next year and Ford boss Tom Gorman says its currently a few weeks ahead of schedule. Its obvious that Ford needs a new Falcon to compete in the current market, with a 2.6% fall in market share the Falcon is losing ground (2300 less falcons than last year) to the VE Commodore (as well as the Toyota Aurion).
"All of our efforts are going into Falcon...(current model) will continue to be a challenge in our final year of BF Mark II," Ford's Tom Gorman said.
There have been some rumours flying around Car Advice readers that Holden is working on a new Diesel option for the VE Commodore, whilst we applaud this move by Holden, it is still far from confirmed (or denied).
As for the new Falcon being a Diesel:
"My first would be LPG. It is critically important to us, Diesel would be next ahead of hybrid. Ethanol also is a player." Ford's Tom Gorman said.
If you stroll to the shops tonight and browse through the Motoring magazines you will notice the cover of Wheels Magazine is plastered with a bastardized photoshop of a new ford Mondeo labeled as "the new falcon".
Whilst I am sure the new Mondeo will share some design cues with the next generation Falcon, the wheels magazine cover leaves a lot to be desired (much like their car of the year award). Expect much more news on the next generation Falcon throughout the year.
