Peugeot Onyx supercar concept leaks

Official images and details of the Peugeot Onyx sports car concept have leaked online just hours after the French manufacturer released a teaser video and a shadowy image of the top-secret all-wheel drive coupe.

The computer generated images, which appeared on Dutch enthusiast website Autoblog overnight, give us an unrestricted look at the Onyx concept, which will debut in the flesh at the 2012 Paris motor show later this month.

The Peugeot Onyx concept features classic supercar proportions, sporting a long, low body, massive alloy wheels with flared arches and muscular rear haunches, tight, aerodynamic lines and a complex rear venting and exhaust outlet layout.

Bronze panels over the doors and front wheel arches and piercing white LED headlights and running light strips bring life to the sinister concept, which exudes a Batmobile vibe at the rear with its dark tones, sharp angles and double-bubble roof.

The Peugeot Onyx concept reportedly teams a rear-mounted 191kW 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an 89kW electric motor on the front axle, with the two combining for an approximate total output of 280kW.

The use of lightweight carbonfibre across the body ensures average fuel consumption as low as 4.0 litres per 100km, which promises to make it one of the most efficient Peugeots ever produced, despite also being one of the most powerful.

Images of the interior reveal a sparse cockpit with integrated seats, a carbonfibre steering wheel, a high-tech central control tube and a digital instrument cluster.

The Peugeot Onyx seemingly draws inspiration from the Peugeot SR1 convertible, which introduced a new design language for the brand at the 2010 Geneva motor show but never evolved beyond the concept stage.

More details of the Peugeot Onyx concept will be revealed in the lead-up to its Paris unveiling on September 29.
