2013 Range Rover: Australian pricing and specifications

The 2013 Range Rover may have shed hundreds of kilos for its latest generation but the luxury SUV has piled on the pounds – or dollars – for its pricing.

Land Rover Australia has confirmed the fourth-generation, all-new Range Rover will cost from $168,900 when it arrives locally in January 2013.

It marks an increase of $6900 over the outgoing entry-level model, while price tags rise throughout the range including up to the high-end Autobiograhpy model.

Land Rover Australia says the price increase is justified because the new model delivers more performance, more capability and more features.

The base Rangie, the Range Rover HSE, also drops from a 5.0-litre V8 petrol to a 3.0-litre V6 diesel – the first six-cylinder Range Rover – after Land Rover Australia decided against importing the normally aspirated eight-cylinder.

Land Rover says performance is comparable, though.

The Range Rover TDV6 engine produces less power with 190kW but offers 100Nm of extra torque – 600Nm – compared with the V8.

TDV6 variants accelerate from 0-100km/h in 7.9 seconds, versus 7.6sec for the V8.

It’s significantly more efficient, however, with an official combined fuel use of 7.5L/100km against the V8’s 14.0L. CO2 emissions are 196g/km.

The Range Rover TDV8 features a 4.4-litre V8 turbo diesel with 250kW and 700Nm, with fuel consumption and emissions of 8.7L/100km and 229g/km.

Performance sees the 0-100km/h sprint completed in 6.9 seconds.

The TDV8 is available with the most trim levels (three) and ranges in price from $195,100 to $232,800.

Land Rover Australia expects the two diesel models to account for about 85 per cent of Range Rover sales locally based on market experience of the current model.

The only petrol version available is a 5.0-litre supercharged V8 with 375kW and 625Nm, an engine that propels the Range Rover from 0-100km/h in 5.4 seconds. It consumes 13.8 litres of fuel every 100km, while emitting 322 grams of CO2 per kilometre.

All three engines are mated to an eight-speed ZF gearbox.

A new diesel hybrid version will join the line-up in Australia in late 2013.

The ultimate luxury trim level, Autobiography, was a relatively late addition to the outgoing Range Rover but features from launch for the all-new model.

Autobiography versions start at $232,800 for the TDV8 and $240,100 for the supercharged V8.

Land Rover Australia says it already holds 25 orders for the all-new Range Rover. It sells about 20 Range Rovers per month on average.
