The first official images of the updated Ford Fiesta hatch have leaked online ahead of the city car’s anticipated unveiling at the brand’s ‘Go Further’ event in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, later this week.
Like the Mondeo, the updated Ford Fiesta sports a large hexagonal upper grille with chrome edges and horizontal slats. The reshaped front bumper features a thinner lower intake and angular foglight recesses, and combines with softened headlight edges and a resculpted bonnet to create a more mature appearance.
New models will benefit from updated alloy wheel designs, while changes at the rear appear limited to minor tweaks to the tail-light lenses.
Interior changes will also be relatively minor, with the new model scoring higher-quality trim plastics and materials and the relocation of the electric window and mirror switches to the reshaped driver’s armrest.
The facelifted Fiesta is expected to go on sale in Australia around the middle of next year, and should hit local showrooms with the all-new 74kW/170Nm turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder EcoBoost petrol engine, which has 14kW less power but 19Nm more torque than the current model’s naturally aspirated 1.6-litre four-cylinder.
The Ford Fiesta ST hot-hatch will follow the standard Fiesta range before the end of 2013.
Full details of the updates to the 2013 Ford Fiesta range will be revealed on September 6.
