Nissan Pulsar sedan previewed with new details and images

Official details of the 2013 Nissan Pulsar sedan have been revealed ahead of the all-new small car’s Australian launch in January.

Badged as the Nissan Sentra in the US, Nissan says the new compact sedan will offer class-leading combined cycle fuel economy and rear-seat legroom to rival the best in North America’s upper small car segment (excluding diesels and hybrids).

The 2013 Nissan Pulsar will be powered by an all-new 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with 97kW of power and 174Nm of torque.

A six-speed manual transmission will be offered as standard alongside the new-generation ‘Xtronic’ continuously variable transmission (CVT), which will be the efficiency leader.

Tested according to US standards, the CVT-equipped Sentra returned a combined cycle fuel consumption rating of 6.9 litres per 100km, although the Pulsar’s figures will be sharper when tested according to Australian standards.

At 4625mm long, 1735mm wide and 1496mm tall, the front-wheel drive Pulsar sedan is 30mm longer, 20mm narrower and 25mm taller than the top-selling Mazda3 sedan.

The Pulsar sedan’s spacious interior will offer generous rear-seat legroom as well as a 427-litre boot, which can be expanded by folding the 60:40 split rear seats forwards.

The US-spec Sentra comes standard with LED daytime running lights and tail-lights, 16-inch steel wheels, soft-touch cabin plastics, and a four-speaker audio system.

Higher models add larger alloy wheels, foglights and automatic headlights, dual-zone climate control, leather upholstery, keyless entry and push-button start, six- and eight-speaker audio systems, satellite navigation, rear-view camera, and hands-free text messaging functionality.

Australian specifications will be confirmed closer to the car’s local launch.

The Nissan Pulsar sedan will replace the Tiida small car in Australia at the beginning of next year, and will be followed around three months later by the new Pulsar hatch.

Nissan Australia CEO and managing director Bill Peffer confirmed late last month a sporty version of the hatch, which could potentially bring back the SSS name, will join the local line-up sometime after the launch of the standard range.
