Red Bull charges towards new world rally role

With its name already tied to everything from Formula One and MotoGP to air racing, Red Bull is now set to take over as the new promoter of the World Rally Championship (WRC).

According to reports, Red Bull Media House is set to be announced as the winner of a tender opened by motorsport ruling body the FIA in February, following the previous promoter, North One Sport, having its contract terminated as a result of its parent company CSI going into administration.

The replacement promoter race included the Red Bull group, Eurosport - currently in charge of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) - and a South African bidder. The FIA's official announcement on the deal is due at the end of the month.

Red Bull is already a strong backer of WRC, sponsoring eight-time world champion Sebastien Loeb (pictured above) - who recently won this year's Global Rallycross Championship X Games round in a 407kW Citroen DS3 - and the Citroen WRC team.

The WRC feather will sit alongside two Formula 1 teams (Red Bull Racing and Torro Rosso) and the Red Bull X-Fighters motocross series, to name just a few, in Red Bull’s ever-expanding marketing cap.
