Audi Q5 recall: sunroof glass shatter risk

Audi Australia is recalling approximately 500 Audi Q5 SUVs due to the risk of the sliding glass sunroof breaking under extreme conditions.

The official recall notice published on the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) website explains the sunroof fitted to some Audi Q5s may suddenly break at temperatures below -20 degrees Celsius, presenting a potential laceration hazard.

Audi Australia will replace the sunroofs of the circa-500 affected Audi Q5 vehicles (built between June 2011 and December 2011) free of charge in a recall service that should take an hour to complete.

Audi Australia’s Shaun Cleary told CarAdvice that while there have been isolated cases of breakages overseas, no cases have occurred in Australia and there have been no reports of any injuries.

The Australian Audi Q5 recall follows an identical recall in the US of 13,172 vehicles, announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at the end of July.

Audi Australia is contacting owners of the relevant vehicles.

To date, Audi has sold 1384 Audi Q5 SUVs in 2012, second only in its segment to the Range Rover Evoque at 1441 units.
