Ferrari F40: world record set at Silverstone
A parade of 60 Ferrari F40 supercars have not only marked the 25th anniversary of the iconic Italian road-weapon at Britain's Silverstone Gran Prix circuit but also set a new world record in the process.
The numerous record-breaking Scarlet Red Ferrari F40s, organsied by the Ferrari Owners' Club of Great Britain, led a parade of more than 400 rare and exotic cars attending the 2012 Silverstone Classic held last weekend at the Silverstone circuit in Northamptonshire in the UK.
"Our original aim was to get at least 25 of these Ferraris together," said Nigel Chiltern-Hunt, the club's anniversary event co-ordinator and F40 owner.
The 352kW twin-turbo 3.0-litre mid-engined V8 powered Ferrari F40 was released in 1987 to honour Ferrari's 40th anniversary and was the final car commissioned by Ferrari’s legendary founder Enzo Ferrari before his death in 1988.
The F40, penned by the late Sergio Pininfarina, was specifically designed to be a dramatic and lasting testament to the founder's ethos of high performance track-developed supercars and weighing 1100kg, with a 0-100km/h time of 3.8 seconds, and being the world’s first 200mph (321km/h) production road car with its top speed of 324km/h, the car most certainly achieved this.
Only 1315 Ferrari F40s were produced by Ferrari between 1987 and 1992.
