W Motors Hyper-sport: first Arab supercar features hologram tech

The maker of the first Arabic supercar, the W Motors Hyper-sport, says its upcoming flagship model will become the first vehicle in the world to feature hologram technology.

Sounding like something out of Star Wars, the Beirut-based company says the Hyper-sport will integrate a "fully functional holographic display with interactive motion", putting it "years of innovation ahead of [the] competition".

Advancing the concept of today’s head-up display systems, that project information onto the windscreen in the driver’s line of sight in some high-end cars, holograms give the appearance of the images hovering in the air, creating an entirely new behind-the-wheel experience.

W Motors chairman Ralph R Debbas said with just five examples planned for production, the Hyper-sport will become the “most exclusive high performance car ever made” and “the most luxurious sports car in the world”, showcasing signature diamond-encrusted LED lights.

“This car is simply unique in every single way,” Debbas said. “Every element has been meticulously engineered to give the right balance between power, torque and speed, delivering the ultimate driving machine for a unique driving experience.”

There’s no official word on the Hyper-sport’s powertrain at this stage, although enthusiast website GT Spirit reports it could feature a twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine with around 560kW of power. W Motors is reportedly targeting a 0-100km/h time of 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 385km/h.

Designed in collaboration with Magna Steyr Torino, Porsche tuning specialist Ruf Automobile Germany, and StudioTorino, the ultra-exclusive supercar is set to feature a carbonfibre frame and a gold-plated bonnet.

The W Motors Hyper-sport will be unveiled at a private event in December ahead of its official public debut at the 2013 Qatar motor show in January.
