2013 SRT Viper: first car built sold for $300,000

The first 2013 SRT Viper produced, VIN #1, has gone under the hammer for charity at a US classic car auction resulting in $300,000 ($299,807) being donated to the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer.

The 477kW/814Nm 8.4-litre V10 SRT Viper that reportedly left Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo "speechless" was sold at Barrett-Jackson Orange County for a final six-figure bid that included an SRT Track Experience and a trip to this year's Petit Le Mans ran annually at the Road Atlanta circuit in Georgia, USA.

The winning bidder will have to wait for full production to commence later this year before taking delivery of a car that will bear a VIN that is guaranteed to become a classic.

The latest iteration of the famous snake car wowed audiences when it was unveiled at this year's New York auto show.
