Porsche 911 Carrera S: new Powerkit boosts performance
The Porsche 911 Carrera S has only recently gone on sale in Australia but a new official modifications kit has already been launched to make it go faster.
A new ‘power enhancement kit’ increases the Carrera S’s power output by 22kW to 316kW, reducing the 911’s 0-100km/h maximum sprinting ability by a tenth to 4.0 seconds dead when the sports car is equipped with optional PDK gearbox and launch control.
Top speed is also lifted by 4km/h – to 306km/h for seven-speed PDK dual-clutch auto versions and 308km/h for those equipped with the standard seven-speed manual gearbox.
The seven per cent power increase for the Porsche 911 Carrera S’s 3.8-litre six-cylinder is achieved through tweaking of the sports car’s electronic engine management system, and Porsche says fuel economy remains at 8.7L/100km (PDK) and 9.5L/100km (manual).
The so-called Powerkit, from the Porsche Exclusive division, also brings new cylinder heads with revised camshafts in addition to a new variable resonance intake system and a unique exhaust system that give the Carrera S an even more dynamic sound.
The Powerkit also adds the Sports Chrono Package with active engine mounts that limit the six-cylinder’s movement during dynamic driving, and the engine gains a titanium-coloured cover and carbon-fibre inlays.
Porsche Exclusive has also introduced aerodynamic customisation options, with the most notable package combining a lower front bumper apron featuring bigger air intakes and a 911-signature ‘ducktail’ rear spoiler.
Other options include tinted privacy glass for the side and rear windows, plus interior trim upgrades featuring carbon-fibre and brushed-aluminium elements.
