KTM X-Bow to go practical with windscreen, doors

KTM CEO Stefan Pierer told Top Gear UK that from March 2013 the Austrian brand will offer a version of its two-seater track weapon with a windscreen and doors.

While a full roof was considered, putting it up against the likes of the classic Lotus Elise and hardcore Lotus Exige, this idea was decided against due to homologation problems. The new model will instead incorporate a simpler "cruising home parasol" that will clip over the new windscreen for driving up to 130km/h.

The X-Bow is a devout representation of the KTM motto "Ready to Race", with the top 'R' model seeing a carbonfibre monocoque, limited-slip differential, individually adjustable pedals, six-speed manual transmission and an Audi-sourced turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder TFSI engine producing 220kW and 400Nm that'll push the less-than-800kg racer to 100km/h from standstill in 3.9 seconds before topping out at 217km/h.

In 2011 attempts were made to have the KTM X-Bow sold in Australia for road use, although unfortunately due to Australian Design Rules this was never achieved.
