Rolls Royce Silver Ghost to star on silver screen

Car biopoics don't come around all that often, but a new movie entitled Silver Ghost, about the true story of the founding of the Rolls Royce car company is in development and with Hollywood legends Martin Scorcese, Richard Attenborogh and Anthony Haas on board as producers, it's sure to impress.

At a recent announcement on the movie, Scorcese said, "When I read the story of Silver Ghost I was mesmerised. I immediately thought that this was a picture that had to be made. And when I was asked to come aboard as a producer alongside Richard Attenborough and Anthony Haas, I didn't hesitate for a moment."

Variety magazine reports that the period drama will be set around the turn of the last century, and will centre on the story of Charles Rolls and Henry Royce, who first met at the Midland Hotel in Manchester.

That meeting spawned the most prestigious automotive brand in history.

Apparently, the movie not only centres on men and machines, but on a secret love affair between Lord Montague of Beaulieu and his secretary, Eleanor Thornton.

Thornton went on to model for the famous Rolls-Royce hood ornament 'The Spirit of Ecstasy' that was designed by English Sculptor, Charles Sykes and still adorns Rolls Royce cars today.

The Silver Ghost was the first luxury car that the Rolls Royce Company produced, and was so named by the press at the time, for it's astounding quietness.

The car was also labelled the "Best car in the world" by UK publication Autocar back in 1907.

There is no director attached to Silver Ghost at this time, but CarAdvice will report more when new information comes to hand.
