Seat releases Spanish racers

Seat has released the Ibiza SC Trophy and Leon Super Copa, two racing cars based on the Seat Ibiza and Seat Leon passenger cars.

The two cars from Volkswagen Group's Spanish brand will join the Skoda Citigo Rally concept car at this week’s Worthersee show - the largest Volkswagen car show in Europe.

The Ibiza SC Trophy (pictured below) is based on the three-door SEAT Ibiza hatch with the 132kW/250Nm twin-charged 1.4-litre TSI engine and seven-speed DSG transmission also seen in the Volkswagen Polo GTI.

The Ibiza SC Trophy then receives its racing tweaks: race suspension, race brakes and a limited-slip front differential for improved performance.

Other motorsport-inspired changes include a stripped-out cabin, full roll cage, flared guards, large rear wing, 18-inch alloy wheels and a centrally located exhaust.

The five-door Leon Super Copa (pictured above) benefits from similar treatment but sees a larger front and rear splitter added. It receives an uprated version of the 2.0-litre TSI unit from the Seat Leon Cupra R fettled to produce 220kW and 340Nm and runs a six-speed DSG transmission.

Both models are finished in grey paint with fluorescent orange highlighting the mirrors, roll cage, and wheels and are available for purchase. The entry-level Ibiza SC Trophy will set you back 31,500 euros ($40,300) while the more hardcore Leon Super Copa is priced from 63,000 euros ($80,700).

While Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda vehicles are available in Australia, the Seat brand is not currently sold here, and that seems an awful shame when these two hot-hatches are considered.
