Former Top Gear Stig takes up James Bond stunt driving

Ben Collins, former Top Gear Stig, has been spotted at his new jobsite in Turkey - the set of the upcoming James Bond film Skyfall.

The 37-year-old stunt driver and former racing driver is part of the stunt team working on the 23rd Bond film ahead of its Australian release in November.

Collins was seen driving a modified Land Rover from the roof in a specially-built frame as the vehicle had its controls moved out of the car to allow enough room for actors and camera equipment inside.

The Mirror reports that 15 Audi A5s, each worth around $70,000, have already been destroyed during filming and rehearsals. A tally that will no doubt grow with Aston Martin cars featuring yet again.

The film is Collins' third time on a Bond set, the same as 007-star himself Daniel Craig, having been involved in stunt driving in both Quantum of Solace and Casino Royale.

Collins left the BBC program in 2010 to write his book The Man in the White Suit – The Stig, Le Mans, the Fast Lane and Me.

Meanwhile current Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson has told a South African radio audience that he'll be happy working with Richard and James, "because there's no [more] Top Gear on this year". In South Africa to plug the Top Gear Festival running June 16 and 17, Clarkson broke the news to fans of the show that season 19 won't kick off until 2013 due to the London 2012 Olympic Games.
