Need for Speed on the big screen

Rumours are rife that the Need for Speed video game franchise has started the wheels in motion for a feature film debut.

Reports from Variety and deadline.com suggest a deal between DreamWorks and Electronic Arts for the movie rights to Need for Speed is close to being signed.

Screenwriter John Gatins, of 2011's Real Steel fame, has been linked to the project as a producer while his brother George Gatins has written the script.

Sony and Paramount have also expressed interest in the project.

The movie is expected to hit theatres in 2014, 20 years after the original Need for Speed video game was released.
