Honda Concept C: Chinese sedan inspired by dragon

The Honda Concept C has made its global debut at the 2012 Beijing motor show giving the world its first look at a future production sedan that will be made exclusively for China.

The Concept C – Honda says the 'C' stands for "cool, challenge and China" – is a mid-size sedan, similar in layout to the Honda Accord Euro. It was designed by Honda in China and developed in collaboration with a team in Japan, and forms the basis of a production model that will be produced by Guangqi Honda Automobile Co. from 2013.

The assertive concept, that Honda says was inspired by a dragon, sports a sinister face with flared nostrils, a sleek profile with muscular rear haunches and a stylised rear with sharp, flowing taillights.

Although the upcoming medium sedan will be exclusive to China, design elements seen in the Concept C are likely to influence the next generation of Honda’s mid-size and large cars, with the brand looking to distinguish its vehicles with a bold family face.

The current-generation Honda Accord Euro has been in production since 2008, and should be in line for a significant overhaul within the next 24 months.

The Honda Concept C is on display at Beijing alongside the Honda Concept S – a design study that previews the styling of the fifth-generation Honda Odyssey people mover.
