Nico Rosberg takes Mercedes F1 to Rotterdam

Formula One driver Nico Rosberg will 'demonstrate' his Mercedes Formula One car on the streets of Rotterdam in August as part of the city's annual City Racing Rotterdam event.

Coming off his maiden Formula One win in China last weekend, the Finnish driver and son of 1982 Formula One World Champion Keke Rosberg is looking forward to returning to Rotterdam to entertain the hordes of spectators expected at the Netherlands’ biggest Formula One event.

"I already drove the circuit in 2006 so I know what to expect and this will benefit the show," Rosberg said.

City Racing started off in Rotterdam in 2006 and allows motorsport fans the opportunity to get up close to top-level racing cars from Formula One, Formula Two and other motorsport disciplines. While admission to the event is free, tickets to access specific grand stands are available.

City Racing has previously run in Moscow in 2011 with an event in Dublin due in June. Past attendees include Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso and David Coulthard (pictured above).

The closest we’ve come to this concept in Australia is Mark Webber driving his Red Bull Racing Renault across Melbourne’s Bolte Bridge in 2011 and his BMW Williams across the Sydney Harbour bridge back in 2005.
