BMW 1 M RS: race car looks for the street

German tuning house Tuningwerk has unleashed the BMW 1-Series M Coupe for those who feel the standard car's 250kW of poke and up to 500Nm of shove just wasn't adequate.

The Tuningwerk BMW 1 M RS appears to be an all-out racer with its roll cage, carbonfibre GT4 front lip, bonnet, boot lid and rear wing, massive optional 380mm carbon ceramic brakes, forged 19-inch ATS Superlight wheels and Recaro Pole Position racing seats, but it’s actually designed with the street in mind.

Power from the 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder twin-turbocharged motor has jumped up to 388kW with torque rising to 614Nm meaning a claimed 300km/h top speed is now achievable.

Less visible are the new limited-slip differential, KW Clubsport suspension, second oil cooler and titanium exhaust.

Options include a bigger FIA approved full roll cage, H&R anti-roll bars, racing clutch, carbonfibre doors, plastic side windows and alternate 19-inch ATS Crosslight wheels.

Having your own BMW 1-Series M Coupe to start with isn't required as Tuningwerk offer the whole package, base car and all, for the grand total of 119,000 euro ($150,700) – a bargain considering the factory car's $99,900 list price in Australia, no?
