2012 SsangYong Actyon Sports: fuel-efficient dual-cab ute launched

The all-new SsangYong Actyon Sports dual-cab ute is now on sale in Australia, bringing with it completely revised styling, a new diesel engine and class-leading fuel economy.

Rear-wheel drive variants of the new Actyon Sports fitted with the standard six-speed manual transmission consume just 7.3 litres of diesel per 100km on the combined cycle, just edging out the Volkswagen Amarok TDI340 2WD at 7.4L/100km.

The 2.0-litre e-XDi200 diesel engine produces 114kW of power and 360Nm of torque (1500-2800rpm) – up 10kW and 50Nm from the previous model.

The three other powertrain options – 4WD manual (7.4L/100km), 2WD six-speed automatic (7.6L/100km) and 4WD automatic (7.9L/100km) – are also fuel economy leaders when rated against their direct competitors.

The new SsangYong Actyon Sports is 4990mm long, 1910mm wide, 1790mm tall and rides on a 3060mm wheelbase, making it 25mm longer 10mm wider and 25-35mm taller than the model it replaces. Braked and unbraked towing capacities are unchanged from before at 2300kg and 750kg respectively.

Four-wheel drive models are equipped with a switchable part-time electric high/low range 4WD system, designed to give drivers greater stability on unpaved and icy surfaces (4WD High), along with maximum traction at low speeds (4WD Low). Double wishbone suspension underpins the front while a five-link set-up is used at the rear.

In total, nine different variants are available based on the three trim levels: Tradie, SX and SPR.

Tradie models comes standard with front fog lights, tray liner, manual air conditioning, multi-function trip computer, floor mats, cloth seats, driver-side lumbar support, and a four-speaker audio system CD player, USB input and Bluetooth phone connectivity and audio streaming.

Two front airbags are standard, but the base model Tradie misses out on the potentially life-saving electronic stability control (ESC) safety system.

ESC is standard on the mid-spec SX model and is integrated with hill-start assist, traction control, active rollover protection, anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist.

Other features added to the SX include 16-inch alloy wheels with a full-size spare, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob, and cruise control.

The range-topping SPR model scores a suite of premium features including 18-inch alloys with full-size alloy spare, automatic headlights with levelling device, rain-sensing wipers, rear parking sensors, folding door mirrors and auto-dimming rear-view mirror, climate control, leather upholstery, and heated front seats with eight-way electric driver-side adjust and four-way passenger-side.
