Ferrari Enzo successor to be revealed this year

The successor to the Ferrari Enzo will be unveiled to an exclusive group of potential owners before the end of this year.

Ferrari CEO Luca di Montezemolo confirmed the car’s imminent unveiling to industry journal Automotive News Europe, adding that the hypercar and its price tag will “surprise people”, and promising that it will be the quickest and most powerful road car in the famous Italian brand’s history.

To achieve that, it will need to overcome the recently revealed Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, whose 544kW/690Nm V12 engine propels it from 0-100km/h in 3.1 seconds and beyond 340km/h when going flat out.

Like the F12, the Enzo replacement will feature a naturally aspirated V12 engine, while the body will be made of carbon fibre.

The all-new Prancing Horse will once again be offered as a limited edition model and will ditch the Enzo name.

Ferrari is yet to confirm how many of the new cars it will produce. It made 399 Enzos between 2002 and 2004 and 349 units of the Enzo’s predecessor, the Ferrari F50, between 1995 and 1997.

The new flagship Ferrari is expected to be revealed to the public at an international motor show early in 2013, likely to be either Detroit or Geneva.
