2013 BMW X1 facelift spied

BMW has been spotted testing a prototype of the facelifted BMW X1. The revised model is expected to feature new front bumpers, restyled headlights, some interior updates, and the new 2.0-litre TwinPower turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

Judging by the looks of this prototype, caught during extreme winter conditions, the facelifted X1 will feature a more pronounced upper grille area, matching BMW's latest design theme.

It's understood the upgraded X1 will borrow much of its front fascia design from the new 1-Series hatch, including similar headlights. The fog lights in the lower section may remain unchanged from the current X1.

There have been reports that the new X1 could receive the new N20 2.0-litre TwinPower turbo four-cylinder engine, in '28i' and '25i' form when it reaches Australian showrooms around late 2012/early 2013.

BMW Australia told CarAdvice it is too early to comment on anything official, but suggested that at some point in the future the naturally aspirated six-cylinder units will eventually be phased out in favour of the new N20, saying that it is just a matter of finding the right timing.

Inside, the facelift is expected to bring a number of trim updates and options, and potentially some new trim colour combinations. New alloy wheel designs are expected to complete the facelift.
