New SRT Viper snake logo revealed

Known as ‘Stryker’, the new serpent logo becomes the third in the Viper family, following ‘Sneaky Pete’, who lived from 1992 to 2002, and ‘Fangs’, who held pride of place from 2003 to 2010.

Stryker was created by Chrysler designer Vince Galante – himself a Viper owner. Galante said it was his intention to give the new logo a more playful appearance than Fangs, while still capturing the sinister look and evil grin of the original.

He says Stryker deliberately features some of the lines that exist on the soon-to-be-revealed fifth-generation Viper.

Head of SRT design Mark Trostle says Galante has “created a new icon” with Stryker. “The new Stryker badge is the most refined, sinister-looking and beautiful badge yet, just like the shape of the car,” Trostle said.

Stryker and the 2013 SRT Viper will make their official debut at the 2012 New York auto show in April.

As we revealed in December, the new Viper will break away from Dodge to become the first vehicle sold exclusively under the SRT (Street and Racing Technology) brand.

Details are scarce at this stage, but reports suggest the reborn Viper pack an 8.7-litre V10 engine, potentially with more than 450kW of power and 760Nm of torque.

Expect more details on the 2013 SRT Viper in the lead-up to the New York show, but don’t hold your breath for a right-hand-drive version.
