2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK250, SLK55 AMG on sale in Australia
Mercedes-Benz has launched the SLK250 and SLK55 AMG in Australia, boosting the new sports car line-up with a mid-spec model and a high-performance flagship.
The SLK250 slots between the SLK200 and SLK350, which introduced the third-generation hardtop roadster to Australia back in August 2011.
With a starting price of $91,900, the SLK250 is $9325 cheaper than the model it replaces.
The SLK250 features a more powerful version of the 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine from the SLK200. It produces an extra 15kW and 40Nm for a maximum output of 150kW and 310Nm of torque. The SLK250 is four-tenths faster from 0-100km/h (6.6 seconds), yet uses just 0.1 litres per 100km more fuel.
On top of the SLK200’s standard features, the SLK250 adds steering wheel shift paddles, memory settings for the seats and steering wheel, mirror package, COMAND online, Intelligent Light System and unique 17-inch alloy wheels.
The range-topping SLK55 AMG brings with it the all-new AMG M152 E55 naturally aspirated 5.5-litre V8 engine. The engine produces 310kW of power and 540Nm of torque, propelling the roadster from 0-100km/h in 4.6 seconds. The new SLK55 AMG is 45kW/30Nm more powerful than the previous model and three-tenths quicker over the sprint.
Despite the added power, the new model it almost 30 per cent more fuel efficient than the old car, using just 8.5L/100km on the combined cycle. Thanks to its cylinder deactivation technology, Mercedes says the SLK55 AMG is the lowest-emission V8 roadster in Australia.
The SLK55 AMG’s $155,000 starting price is $24,360 lower before. For an extra $8825, the AMG Handling Package option adds composite front brakes, AMG performance suspension, and an AMG rear-axle differential lock.
