Skoda Octavia Green E Line testing begins
Skoda has begun testing 10 prototypes of its fully electric Octavia Green E Line. The Green E Line is Skoda's first-ever fully electric vehicle, and is expected to be put into mass production once data from the testing is assessed.
Skoda board member in charge of research and development Dr Eckhard Scholz recently said: "Skoda and the entire Volkswagen Group have a long-time aim, and that is sustainable mobility based on renewable energy sources".
Skoda is expected to launch a range of different powertrain technologies in the future, as well as continuing development of its TDI and TSI engines. "Improving fuel economy quickly will bring the greatest benefit in the short term. We are working hard on further lowering fuel consumption and CO2 emissions," Scholz adds.
Based on the standard Octavia wagon, the Green E is powered by a 26.5kWh lithium-ion battery and an electric motor producing a peak of 85kW, delivered to the front wheels. Maximum torque, which is accessible from 0rpm, is rated at 270Nm.
As for performance, 0-100km/h can be taken care of in 12.5 seconds, while its top speed is rated at 135km/h. Recharging the battery from empty takes around eight hours using a single-phase 230-volt socket, and two hours using a three-phase 400-volt socket.
