Will.i.am from The Black Eyed Peas launching IAMAUTO car company
American rapper, songwriter, actor and producer Will.i.am has just added two more job titles to his exhaustive resume: automotive designer and car company founder.
Will.i.am, best known for being one quarter of hip hop dance group The Black Eyed Peas told Jay Leno about his new creation, which he calls IAMAUTO.
“I’m a big technology freak and a geek and I invested my money in building my own vehicle because I want to bring jobs to the ghetto that I come from,” the 36-year-old said.
“I invested in making a demo to start The Black Eyed Peas, we did that, now I want to invest to have a car company in the neighbourhood that I come from.”
Will.i.am grew up in the housing projects of Boyle Heights in East Los Angeles, California.
The two-door is based on a Chrysler platform. Will.i.am was responsible for the interior and exterior design, as well as the Beat by Dr Dre audio system.
“I went to Chrysler and got a whole bunch of parts to where it’s still certified as a legal vehicle on the streets.
“I don’t really mess with any of the airbag configurations and things like that, kept the chassis, then recreated the shell… It’s sick, it’s really fresh.”
There’s no word yet on how much the IAMAUTO will cost when (or if) it actually hits the market.
