2012 Subaru XV pricing revealed

Drive-away pricing for the 2012 Subaru XV, essentially a jacked-up version of the forthcoming next-generation Impreza hatchback, has been revealed on the company's official website.

The new Subaru XV goes on sale in January and will start from about $32,000 including on-road costs, meaning it will undercut the entry-level version of the Japanese brand's Forester compact SUV by about $2500.

Subaru, which calls the XV that boasts a 220mm-high ground clearance a 'crossover' vehicle, has equipped it with plenty of features.

All three models in the Subaru XV range include a rear-view camera, seven airbags, foglights, 17-inch alloys, Bluetooth and iPod connectivity, stop-start, cruise control and stability control.

Drive-away prices are approximate as on-road and dealer charge costs vary between states, but step up from the base 2.0i to the 2.0i-L and an electric sunroof and integrated satellite navigation are two main extra items added for a drive-away price of about $35,500.

The range-topping 2.0i-S costs about $38,000 drive-away and adds leather upholstery and sportier-looking pedals.

All Subaru XV models are all-wheel-drive and powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 110kW and 196Nm. Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual gearbox or a continuously variable automatic transmission.

The related new Impreza arrives in March.
