Bentley: New Cars 2012

It's not very often a new Bentley comes along, but 2012 will host two major changes to the company's Australian line-up. The first will be the new Continental GTC drop top, featuring a fabric folding roof and the new harder-edged styling. The second will be the introduction of the new 4.0-litre V8 engine option for the entry-level Continental variants. The engine is based on an Audi unit.

BENTLEY CONTINENTAL GTC

Vehicle type: Luxury convertible. Timing: April

The new Bentley GTC features a more masculine body compared with the current model with a new jaw and sharper contours and edges, particularly around the front and rear corners. It’s powered by a twin-turbo W12 engine producing 423kW of power and 700Nm of torque. The engine is multi-fuel compatible and can run on E85 ethanol. Acceleration from 0-100km/h is taken care of in just 4.8 seconds.

BENTLEY CONTINENTAL V8

Vehicle type: Luxury coupe. Timing: Q3

Bentley’s new 4.0-litre V8 engine is borrowed from Audi, under the Volkswagen company umbrella, and produces 373kW of power and 660Nm of torque. It will be capable of propelling the big Continental from 0-100km/h in under 5.0 seconds, while offering fuel consumption closer to 10L/100km - especially important given the 12-cylinder model's thirst. It will join the line-up as the entry-level model, beneath the twin-turbo W12.
