Lexus sports car concept teased ahead of Detroit show

Update 20th Dec - Lexus has today unveiled an interior image of the upcoming concept car.

Lexus has given us a sneak peek at its latest sports car concept ahead of its unveiling at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January.

The sleek concept was designed by Calty – the company’s Californian design studio – and displays Lexus’s new design language, seen on the all-new 2012 Lexus GS.

The concept adopts the new hourglass-shaped 'spindle' grille and incorporates the traditional Lexus design elements of angular headlights, sharp character lines, detailed panel textures and rounded intakes. The concept rides on 21-inch dark alloy wheels.

Lexus is remaining tight-lipped on the concept and says it will reveal more details next week.

Calty previously contributed to the design of the futuristic 2007 Toyota FT-HS Concept that previewed many of the final styling elements of the Lexus LFA, as well as the 2004 Lexus LF-C convertible concept.

Lexus’s two most recent concepts have quickly been turned into production cars, with the LF-Ch previewing the CT 200h and the LF-Gh becoming the next-generation GS.

Each of Lexus’s nine concepts revealed since 2003 have used the ‘LF’ prefix, and it is expected this latest sports car concept will follow the trend.
