Suzuki Regina concept to preview upcoming global model

Suzuki has unveiled the Suzuki Regina concept at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show. It features dramatic styling, a lightweight body, and showcases a super fuel-efficient powertrain.

The Suzuki Regina concept is being pitched as a preview as what to expect in the form of an upcoming global vehicle from Suzuki, taking inspiration from its fuel-efficient technology and overall character.

Power comes from an 800cc turbocharged petrol engine linked up to a regenerative braking system. Along with stop/start technology, Suzuki says the little Regina concept has a fuel consumption rating of just 3.7L/100km.

The body has been made to be aerodynamically efficient through the air while driving along, and is constructed with lightweight materials. As a result, the Regina tips the scales at just 730kg, making it lighter than the current Suzuki Swift by just under 300kg.

It measures 3500mm in length 1600mm in width, making it marginally shorter (3695mm) and narrower (1690mm) than the Swift. While inside, the interior has been designed for maximum space efficiency. The dashboard, for instance, is arranged in an almost floating layout while the floor and front foot wells provide a open space.

There are no immediate plans from Suzuki to put the Regina into production, but certain aspects will certainly be something to look out for in the future. what do you think of it?
