2012 Honda CR-V revealed at Los Angeles Auto Show
The 2012 Honda CR-V has been unveiled at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show. The fourth-generation compact SUV sports a bold new exterior design, and promises to be roomier and more car-like on the inside.
The all-new CR-V goes on sale in the US in mid-December and is scheduled to arrive in Australia in the second half of 2012.
Honda says the 2012 CR-V will be smoother and quieter, more powerful and efficient, and offer more standard features than the previous model.
The 2012 Honda CR-V gets an upgraded version of the outgoing model’s 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. Power is up 13kW to 138kW and torque increases 3Nm to 221Nm. When teamed with the five-speed automatic transmission, the front-wheel drive CR-V achieves combined cycle fuel consumption of 9.0 litres/100km, and the all-wheel drive model manages 9.4 litres/100km (based on US testing standards). The outgoing CR-V (only available in AWD in Australia) uses 10.0 litres/100km combined according to Australian standards.
Honda made no mention of a manual transmission at the CR-V’s Los Angeles unveiling. Honda Australia's Melissa Cross could not confirm if a manual option would be available locally. Ms Cross also declined to comment about the potential for the addition of a front-wheel drive model to our line-up.
The CR-V is equipped with ‘Eco Assist’ – a system that indicates when the car is being driven efficiently. It incorporates an ECON Mode button that tweaks a number of the vehicle’s characteristics to support economical driving.
In the US, the 2012 Honda CR-V will come standard with Bluetooth phone connectivity, full-colour multi-information display, multi-angle rear-view camera with guidelines, and SMS text-to-voice functionality.
Australian specifications will be revealed closer to the CR-V’s local launch in the second half of 2012.
