2012 Honda CR-V revealed in official right-hand drive images

Honda has released the first official images of the 2012 Honda CR-V production car less than three weeks out from its world debut at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The 2012 Honda CR-V images appeared on the manufacturer’s Japanese website. They show the compact SUV in right-hand drive form, giving Australian customers a good idea of what to expect from the CR-V when it arrives in local showrooms in the second half of 2012.

The production images reveal a car which remains true to the CR-V Concept that was initially teased in July, and support revealing patent images published around five weeks ago.

The fourth-generation Honda CR-V has been developed on a new platform and promises increased interior space, a lower height and a lower load floor.

The platform will continue to support both front- and all-wheel drive models. Honda Australia is yet to confirm whether it plans to introduce the front-wheel drive variant to our market.

Engine details are still unconfirmed, although a number of reports suggest the new model will feature an upgraded version of the current 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. Power is tipped to increase from 125kW to 130kW while torque could rise from 218Nm to 230Nm.

Fuel efficiency is also expected to improve substantially over the current model’s 10.0 litres/100km combined cycle rating. A new six-speed automatic transmission is set to take over from the current five-speed auto, and should play a role in the car’s reduced consumption.

Production of the US-spec CR-V is already underway in Ohio and Mexico, with the vehicle set to hit North American showrooms before the end of 2011. Honda Australia sources its CR-Vs from Thailand.

Official details of the 2012 Honda CR-V will be revealed at the LA Auto Show on November 18. Stay tuned.
