Mazda Turbo2, Mazda MX-5 Spyder concepts at 2011 SEMA

Mazda USA has teased us with two images of concept cars that are coming to tomorrow’s 2011 SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

The Mazda MX-5 Spyder is a sexy redesign of the world’s most popular two-seat convertible sports car. The conventional folding roof is replaced by a sweeping red canvas cover that extends from the arch of the windscreen to the end of the boot.

The front-end gets a sleeker appearance with sinister black headlights, a gaping mouth and swept-back side intakes. Boosted alloys give the MX-5 Spyder a more muscular look, while the lowered ride height is accentuated by the shadowy skirts at the front and sides.

Also on show will be the Mazda Turbo2, which could preview an upcoming light hatch from the Japanese manufacturer.

Mazda says the Turbo2 uses “one of our most powerful turbocharged engines in our lightest platform” – a mouthwatering combination. The concept will be presented with a modest body kit and a bright exterior graphic design.

We’ll bring you more details of both cars when they debut in Las Vegas next week.

In the meantime, do you think Mazda should produce a Mazda2 MPS to compete with the Volkswagen Polo GTI and the upcoming Ford Fiesta ST? Let us know in the comments section below.
