Renault has been spotted testing the next-generation 2013 Renault Clio in the European Alps. The prototype spotted is wearing the all-new front end, however, the rest of the prototype is still wearing the current-generation body.

Although the front end of this prototype is covered in camouflage, we can make out the major details of the design. The production model is expected to showcase a fresh face incorporating emotional themes inspired by the Renault DeZir concept that was first unveiled at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

From these spy images, we can seen certain DeZir elements will make their way onto the new Renault Clio. There's a large central Renault badge which is suspended by a spanning gloss black front grille, like a set of wings. The lower front grille also features glass black fins, similar to the DeZir concept.

One of the biggest changes to the new, fourth-generation Renault Clio will be the removal of the three-door hatch variant. According to Renault product manager Beatrice Foucher, a three-door model will not be joining the line-up due to market demand and low profit reasons. She recently said,

"There is always a bigger volume for the five-door car. It is expensive to invest in a three-door and you make less money on it, so it’s not as profitable."

As for the engines, a similar lineup of small petrol and diesel options will be coming with the new model like the existing range. A sports Renault Clio RenaultSport version has also been confirmed, featuring a downsized turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

The interior of the new Clio will apparently come in various colours and options providing tougher competition to its main rivals, such as the MINI Cooper and Citroen DS3, both of which come with an interior in a variety of colourful and personalised flavours. The interior is also said to be turned up a notch in terms of fit and finish and overall quality.

The 2013 Renault Clio is expected to be unveiled at the 2012 Paris Motor Show in September. Stay tuned for more updates in the meantime.
