Lexus LS track mule spy shots

Lexus has been spotted testing a rather interesting Lexus LS track mule on Germany's Nurburgring. It's unknown what the special model is exactly but it gives off a definite performance track-oriented theme.

No official word has been given as to what this high performance Lexus LS prototype actually is. Some early speculation has suggested it might be the basis for an upcoming Lexus LS F model, while others say it is a prototype race car.

Our spy photographers did say the LS gave off an incredible exhaust note however, pointing more towards the special model being a seriously-focused track car being prepared for motorsport.

Whatever it is, it features a very aggressive performance bodykit including revised front and rear bumpers with a large air intake incorporated into the front. At the rear there's a big spoiler moulded into the boot lid, while the sides feature a heavy, low skirt matched to bolstered wheel arches.

As far as official engine details go, rumours say it could powered by a 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 producing up to 478kW of power and 710Nm of torque. The transmission used is unconfirmed but some reports have said the special model has a very high engine redline, suggesting it could use the same transmission as seen in the Lexus LFA supercar.

These are just rumours however. Full details are expected to be announced at the car's unveiling, which is said to be at the 2011 Tokyo Auto Show in December.
