2012 SsangYong SUT-1 production ute unveiled at Frankfurt

The production version of the 2012 SsangYong SUT-1 has been unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show ahead of its anticipated Australian launch in the first half of next year.

At 4990mm long, 1910mm wide, 1790mm high and with a wheelbase of 3060mm, the SsangYong SUT-1 is 25mm longer, 10mm wider and 35mm taller than the current Actyon dual-cab ute which it is expected to replace.

The SUT-1 is powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine with 114kW of power (3400-4000rpm) and 360Nm of torque (1500-2800rpm). On top of this, SsangYong says 190Nm of torque will be available from just above idle at 1000rpm. The current Actyon produces maximum of a 104kW and 310Nm.

Depending on the market, the engine will be paired with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission, and will be available in rear-wheel drive or part-time all-wheel drive.

Combined cycle fuel consumption will range from 7.1 to 8.0 litres/100km depending on the drivetrain, down from the Actyon’s 8.0 to 8.7 litres/100km range.

The production SUT-1 remains true to the concept vehicle that was previewed earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show.

The overall styling is assertive and purposeful, and considerably more cohesive than the Actyon.

The front-end features bold headlights and fog lights, as well as the brand’s new ‘vampire fang’ design element at the base of the lower intake.

The profile is dominated by large body-coloured C-pillar extensions, while the rear gets angular taillights.

SsangYong says the SUT-1 will be anything but a stripped-out work ute. Available features include a sunroof, Bluetooth audio streaming, rear-view camera, daytime running lights, leather upholstery and heated front seats.

The SsangYong SUT-1’s safety package includes electronic stability control, dual airbags, four-wheel disc brakes, front and rear fog lights and a reversing warning system.

Exact specification and pricing details will be revealed closer to the SUT-1’s local launch early next year.
