2012 Toyota Prius facelift coming to Australia first half of 2012

The 2012 Toyota Prius facelift has made low-key debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show ahead of its Australian launch in the first half of next year.

The updated Toyota Prius remains identical under the skin, retaining its 3.9 litres/100km combined cycle fuel consumption and 89g/km CO2 emissions average.

From the outside, the 2012 Toyota Prius gets a restyled front bumper with an enlarged lower grille – inspired by the Toyota Yaris HSD Concept. The new clear lens headlamps incorporate repositioned LED lamps, while the fog lights and daytime running lights have also been revised.

The taillights have a more upright appearance, while new alloy wheel designs and automatically folding side mirrors complete the new exterior package.

Inside, a fresh black colour scheme replaces the previous grey theme. Silver inserts and new upholsteries add to the new cabin ambiance.

The centre console has been revised and the push start button now has a hybrid blue glow.

The multimedia screen on the dashboard is now a vacuum fluorescent display (VFD), which Toyota says is sharper and has three-dimensional functionality.

More details will be revealed closer to the local launch of the 2012 Toyota Prius. It is expected to arrive in local showrooms around March/April 2012.
