Maserati Kubang concept SUV at Frankfurt Motor Show

Maserati has revealed the Maserati Kubang concept all-new SUV at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany. This is the first time the new SUV has been seen in public.

Maserati hasn't revealed all that many details about the new concept, only saying that it is one which offers "uplifting driving pleasure and luxury atmosphere" and one that is in tune with the company's main characteristics. Maserati said,

"Style, engine, suspensions, brakes, handling and performance will all be 100 per cent Maserati in picture-perfect continuity with the brand’s core values of sportiness, style, elegance, luxury, performance and craftsmanship".

The Maserati Kubang concept is based on the latest Jeep Grand Cherokee platform which provides the sturdy off-road foundations. Power for the eventual production version is expected to come from a 4.7-litre Ferrari-derived V8 producing around 330kW of power and 500Nm of torque.

Maserati has revealed that the new Kubang SUV will use an new eight-speed automatic transmission. The company has also said the SUV would come with performance oriented components, such as the brakes, suspension and steering, which would be developed at Maserati's development centre in Modena, Italy.

No word has been mentioned on when the Maserati Kubang will hit the market in some kind of production form. We'll certainly keep you updated. In the meantime, what do you think of the new design? Does it ring true to Maserati? Would you buy one?
