Kia GT images leaked ahead of 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show

Intimate details of Kia’s sexy new rear-wheel drive sports sedan concept have leaked onto the net just days out from the concept’s global premiere at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.

These images appear to confirm the concept’s name – Kia GT – as indicated by the rear licence plate.

For the first time, we see the rear-hinged suicide doors opened out, revealing a driver-focused, minimalist, B-pillar-less cabin that exudes class and quality.

The Kia GT Concept is a world away from basic passenger cars that launched the South Korean brand in Australia in 1997, and strong statement from the uprising marque, which again finished inside the top 10 for total sales across the country in August.

Kia says the GT concept ‘signals the company’s distinctive new design direction’, incorporating the core principles of ‘powerful, dynamic and forward-looking’ design.

Kia Motors chief design officer, Peter Schreyer, describes the rear-wheel drive four-door sports sedan as a marriage of ‘sleek and muscular proportions with a sophisticated and elegant four-seater cockpit’.

“No matter from which perspective you look at it – this concept car is roaring with energy and ready for take-off,” Mr Schreyer said.

“I believe the car is a strong statement from Kia: we are ready to fast-forward to an all-new chapter.”

Specifics of the concept, including its underpinnings and drivetrain, remain a secret for now.

The full details are expected at the unveiling of the Kia GT in Frankfurt next week.
