Lexus LFA posts 7:14 Nürburgring lap time

Lexus has put its appropriately named LFA Nürburgring pack on the infamous track in the Eifel Mountains in Germany and walked away with a stunning lap time.

With driver Akira Iida behind the wheel, the LFA went around in a staggering 7 minutes and 14 seconds. Putting that into perspective, that's quicker than the Porsche 911 GT2 RS (7:18.00), the Nissan GT-R, and Chevrolet's Corvette ZR-1 (7:19.63).

The time was set after several demonstration laps and was using the standard road tyres. The Gazoo Racing driver, Iida-san, had a clear lap and good weather to accomplish the amazing time.

Only 50 of the LFA Nürburgring package cars will be made available and formal production will start in 2012. The power is lifted to 424kW to account for increased drag from its revised aerodynamics package.

A different suspension tune is included, as well as a vehicle height reduction of 10mm, different wheels and bespoke tyres.

Three colours (and two finishes) will be available - Matte Black, Black, White or Orange, as well as interior enhancements, and a personalised 'Ring driving instruction course.

Lexus says there will be a video, which we will post as soon as it's online.
