Ssangyong XIV-1 Concept previewed ahead of Frankfurt debut

Ssangyong has lifted the haze from the Ssangyong XIV-1 Concept, releasing official renderings of the upcoming urban SUV ahead of its world premiere at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show on September 13.

Fans of the South Korean manufacturer will notice the concept’s name has changed from just two weeks ago, when it was teased as the XUV-1 Concept.

Ssangyong describes the XIV-1 as a “premium crossover utility vehicle” designed for the global market.

Seemingly taking strong styling cues from the recently launched Range Rover Evoque, the XIV-1 has a long-slung, wide-bodied stance with high sill lines, a thin glasshouse and a sloping, flat roofline.

“The XIV-1 focuses on realising a future-oriented design based on our heritage, and is based on our product philosophy of ‘Robust, Specialty and Premium’,” Ssangyong said in a statement.

“We believe that the vehicle, created based on a simple, dynamic and strong aesthetic value, will show the supremacy of our ingenious design.”

The Ssangyong XIV-1 is the second fresh concept from the SUV and pick-up manufacturer this year, following the unveiling of the SUT 1 Concept at March’s Geneva Motor Show.
