Mazda CX-5 prototype promotional footage: video
Despite having already revealed the all-new 2012 Mazda CX-5 SUV, Mazda has just released a little preview video showcasing a Mazda CX-5 prototype being driven in France. Mazda will officially unveil the new Mazda CX-5 at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.
As previously reported, the Mazda CX-5 will feature a new SUV body modelled on the Mazda Minagi Concept. The design takes inspiration from Mazda's latest Kodo design language, presenting a new Mazda face with a large front grille and central fascia, with the lower half outlined by chrome trimming.
Mazda Australia says it is still to finalise the CX-5's position in the range relative to the other SUV models. It may fall beneath both the Mazda CX-7 and Mazda CX-9, although there is also the possibility it will replace the Mazda CX-7 altogether.
Definite engine specifications and details are yet to be confirmed, however, one option for the new CX-5 is said to be a 2.2-litre SkyActiv-D diesel engine producing 129kW of power and 420Nm of torque.
Mazda Australia has confirmed the Mazda CX-5 will be heading to our shores in 2012. More details will be revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show which kicks off on September 13. Stay tuned.
