MINI Paceman production confirmed

The compact two-door MINI Paceman SUV has been confirmed for production. MINI CEO and former head of BMW M, Dr Kay Segler, confirmed the new variant will be based on the MINI Paceman Concept, first unveiled at the 2011 North American International Auto Show. It is unconfirmed if the Paceman name will stick.

Although patent images of the compact SUV crossover have be found, this is the first official confirmation of Paceman production. In a recent Car and Driver report in the US, Dr Segler said the new model would join the lineup and that it would be built at MINI's production facilities in Graz, Austria.

The new MINI Paceman is a three-door version of the MINI Countryman, featuring the same ALL4 all-wheel drive underpinnings. It is expected to be offered with a variety of engine, similar to those found in the MINI Countryman.

A sporty MINI Paceman John Cooper Works special is also on the cards, featuring a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing around 155kW of power and 280Nm of torque.

Production is set to commence sometime towards the end of 2012, with market entry likely to take place in 2013.
