2012 Porsche 911 on sale in Australia in March

Porsche has finally released official details of the new 2012 Porsche 911. Even though the new model was revealed last week, Porsche has today released some details to go with the images ahead of the car's official 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show debut.

The new Porsche 911 Carrera will come with a fresh 3.4-litre flat-six engine producing 257kW of power (torque figures are yet to be released). This new entry-level model will be able to sprint from 0-100km/h in 4.6 seconds (PDK transmission) and offer a fuel consumption rating 8.2L/100km - the same consumption as a Mazda3. This figure is improved from the current 9.8L/100km. Overall emissions are rated at 16 per cent lower than the outgoing model, at 194g of CO2/km.

The new Porsche Carrera S features a 3.8-litre flat-six engine, similar to the current version, producing 294kW of power - up from 283kW. Porsche says the Carrera S is able to sprint from 0-100km/h in 4.3 seconds, while fuel consumption has also dropped from 10.2L/100km to 8.7L/100km. With Porsche's Sport Chrono Package, and when launch control is activated, the Carrera S is able to accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 4.1 seconds.

As previously speculated, the new 911 will come with a seven-speed manual transmission as well as an optional seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Other highlights include an all-new interior with a dashboard layout focused towards the driver, including a new transmission selector positioned higher up on the console and a new array of gauges in the instrument cluster.

Porsche says the new model's wheelbase has been stretched by 100mm, providing more interior comfort, while the overall height has been reduced to improve the 911's centre of gravity. A wider front track is also in place to enhance turn-in grip and high-speed stability.

The 2012 Porsche 911 will go on sale in Australia next March, with prices for the entry-level Carrera starting at $229,900 and the Carrera S from $263,100 - around $7000 to $10,000 more expensive than the current model lineup, respectively.
