McLaren receives “significant” investment from Singaporean businessman

Peter Lim, a super-rich businessman based in Singapore has invested a large sum of money into McLaren, makers of the McLaren MP4-12C and the original McLaren F1. It's unknown just how much is being invested but according to McLaren it is a "significant amount".

Peter Lim is the eighth richest man in Singapore, according to Forbes, and also offered $528 million to buy Liverpool football (soccer) team in the UK, just to give you an idea of Lim's stature. The extent of Lim's ability to come up with serious funds has bolstered speculation that the investment could be 'significant' enough to greatly impact the future of McLaren and its products.

Reports say that this could help see the release of all-new models, such as a McLaren F1 replacement to take on the Bugatti Veyron and to regain the title as the world's fastest production car. Other rumours say the investment could help McLaren bring out a new high performance sedan-based model as well.

McLaren is a growing brand at the moment, announcing earlier this year that a global sales network would be set up in the coming years. The plan includes the opening of 35 all-new showrooms throughout 19 different countries. McLaren also announced that production of the MP4-12C would be bumped up to 1000 units per year next year, with hopes of expanding that even further in the near future.

We'll be sure to provide more updates on what this investment will mean for McLaren upon further announcements. Stay tuned. In the meantime, feel free to give us some of your examples of what sort of car you would like McLaren to produce in the comments section below.
