Kia sports sedan concept previewed ahead of Frankfurt show

Kia has released some early preview shots of the new Kia sports sedan concept it plans to unveil at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show next month. Last month, reports were circulating suggesting that Kia was developing a rear-drive V8 sedan to debut at Frankfurt. These latest preview images prove that is exactly what Kia was planning.

Cynics have been critising the new yet-to-be named Kia sports sedan, saying that elements of the design are stolen from other popular sports sedans on the market. They claim there are obvious design connections to the latest Jaguar XF sedan and its high waistline and front guard layout, or sharing similar elements to the Aston Martin One-77 face. Either way, those are great-looking sedans, is it such a bad thing that someone may accidentally mistake a Kia for an Aston Martin?

Official details of the new concept haven't been released yet, but the sedan is expected to be based on the Hyundai Genesis sedan and Kia K9 sedan, including the new 5.0-litre V8 powerplant producing up to 320KW of power and 500Nm of torque. This, of course, would also include a rear-wheel drive chassis, making it one of the first ever rear-drive Kias.

Inside, the Kia sports sedan concept is likely to feature a svelte yet modern and futuristic layout, incorporating lots of sharp angles, brushed aluminium-style trimming and an interactive LCD multimedia interface. We'll have wait and see to know for sure though.

The new Kia sports sedan concept will be unveiled on September 13 at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Stay tuned for our full updates and coverage of the show in the coming weeks. In the meantime, upon first impressions, what do you think of this new Kia concept?
