Using a smartphone's GPS system, the Ultimate Drive app gives users the chance to share their most enjoyable roads in any given area around the world. The app also allows users to rate roads, giving other users a heads-up on the drive before they make the journey. Pawan Murthy from BMW Group financial services, said in a recent report,
"There are plenty of sites that will show you the top roads to drive. The roads that are filtering up (in the app) include others that very few people have ever heard of, and that's what makes it so exciting."
Around 600 routes are apparently in the registry already, with most of the highest rated journeys having particularly interesting scenery, while others include more active stretches of road that have a lot of corners and twists.
BMW says the app is not only good for sports driving enthusiasts though, users can also incorporate interesting shops and cafes that can be experienced along the way. Warnings and dangers on certain stretches of road can be mentioned as well.
BMW North America says this is the first version of the app, and says an improved and expanded version will come out in early October. Murthy added,
"We wanted to get Version 1 out so we could expose it to the world and initiate crowd sourcing of routes. Succeeding versions will have a closer connection with financial services."
