There will ‘never’ be a Ferrari electric vehicle: president
If electric cars are the future of the automotive industry, don’t expect to see Ferrari playing any part in it.
Outspoken Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo told US publication engadget the Italian supercar brand will “never” produce an electric vehicle, at least while he is at the helm anyway.
“You will never see a Ferrari electric because I don't believe in electric cars, because I don't think they represent an important step forward for pollution or CO2 or the environment,” Mr Montezemolo said.
“But we are working very, very hard on the hybrid Ferrari. This should be the future, and I hope in a couple of years you can see it.”
The first ever Prancing Horse hybrid was the Ferrari 599 HY-KERS concept, which was unveiled at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show.
The HY-KERS system combined a lithium-ion battery pack with a 75kW electric motor. The system used regenerative braking energy to extend the vehicle’s range and provide an extra power boost, similar to the technology used in Formula One.
Since then, rumours of hybrid variants of almost every model have emerged, including the replacement for the 599, the 612 and even the all-new Enzo hypercar replacement.
