Westfield iPhone App introduces Find My Car parking assistance

Westfield has introduced an Australian-first feature on its free iPhone application that gives shoppers step-by-step directions back to their car.

The Westfield complex at Bondi Junction in Sydney is the first store to implement the new ‘Find My Car’ system, which uses high-resolution cameras placed throughout the car park to take photographs of vehicle licence plates.

Shoppers simply type their car’s registration number into the App and using Westfield’s Car Park Assist photograph system, which shows parking spaces in real-time, they are presented with an image of their car.

Once the car is selected, the shopper is asked to input their location (to the nearest store) and the App maps out the quickest way back to the parking spot.

The technology reportedly took three months to develop in collaboration with local App designer Intunity. Westfield eventually plans to expand the Find My Car tool across its Australian network.

“Westfield is discussing the possibility of introducing the Find My Car technology in future Westfield centre car park developments,” the company said in a statement.

“In the meantime, shoppers who don’t have access to Find My Car can use the Parking Guidance System … in Sydney and Melbourne to help secure a parking spot and find their car following their shopping experience.”

The application also provides shoppers with live information about the closest available car spaces to specific shops, and the number of available spaces by zone and level.
