2012 Porsche 911 pre-production spy shots

Some more spy shots of the upcoming 2012 Porsche 911 have been sent through from our spy photographers. The 911 appears to be wearing pre-production protective white tape on it this time, which suggests it could be a production version being transported rather than a prototype.

This example is also wearing some protective strips around the front contours to stop it being scratched and dinged during transportation, also hinting that this might be a production version undertaking an early test drive before the big show.

There have been countless reports on various test models out in public in recent weeks. It's now getting to the point where Porsche may simply be driving cars around as a publicity stunt to build anticipation for next month's Frankfurt Motor Show unveiling.

As previously reported, the entry-level 2012 Porsche 911 will feature a 3.4-litre flat-six engine producing around 257kW, while a Carrera S version will continue to use the 3.8-litre flat-six, with power increased to around 294kW. The new 911 will also feature a seven-speed manual transmission and a larger (longer wheelbase) layout with more interior room.

The 2012 Porsche 911 will be unveiled in full detail at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, starting September 13.
